Aggressive Rotti Mix

Hi there, My girl is a 5yr old Rottie/mastiff mix. In our home she is mellow and by and large gets along well with everyone. We have another dog(who is quite submissive)as well as two cats and a pair of teenage boys. When another animal comes into view, she changes and becomes very aggressive. Nothing seems to be able to snap her out of the behavior. Treats do work but she learned that if she gobbled the treat she could have a two for one special (get a treat and still have time to try and attack the other animal.

We exercise twice daily and our walks are becoming very challenging as I am trying to keep an eye out for other animals which is likely causing a nervous energy from me that she feds off of. I have been working on our "leadership" issues in the house and it seems to be working but I am not translating it to our walks very well. I just want to be able to walk my girl down the street and have both of us enjoy it. Right now we go out and she seems to be hunting and I am the paranoid side kick! Your advice would be appreicated. Thanks Cindy

My Rottweiler is only aggressive towards small children

by Kim
(Victoria, BC Canada)

I have a 14month old Rottie who has never showed aggression towards another dog or adults. He can walk off lead and loves other dogs at the dog parks but recently if a small child is in his sights he will snap at them, has never bit or harmed (thankfully) but am worried we have just been lucky. any ideas?

Aggressive Rottie pup

by Nanette
(Northridge, CA.)

I have raised and owned (proudly) 2 rotties, 2 english mastiffs, 2 labs - after just recently losing my mastiff, my husband surprised me with a baby Rott - since day one he has been really aggressive with me - i know the difference between play and aggression - he growls, snarls at me - with my husband he is so sweet - licks him gets so excited to see him - when i come in he gets excited for second then starts the growling - i can't hold him - he follows me around but i think its because i feed him - i am the one who plays, feeds, grooms and wakes up with him through the night yet it seems like this little guys hates my guts - i am so disheartened -
My husband blames me and says i am too easy with him and i have to get more stearn - i tell him no, even have used the give him a toy when he is biting - nothing seems to work - he bites my ankles when i walk - he cries if i leave the room but i walk back in and he instantly growls - he does not come up to me to lick it is just instant biting - he is great with strangers women and men - i can't imagine a puppy acutally not liking someone especially his mommy who loves him so much! At my wits end - i did find out that is was a backyard type breeder pups were in a pen outside next to their aggressive Dad with no mom - he was just 7 wks. - he is now 15 wks. and growing by the moment - any advice is very welcomed and appreciated

Aggressive Rottweiler puppy/ my 14 year old Australian Heeler

by Anna
(Louisville, KY)

I don't know what to do.... I have a fourteen year old Australian Heeler. He is my heart. I have had this dog since he was six weeks old. My boyfriend and I have been living together for a year; he has two dogs, an American Bulldog and a Rottweiler puppy. My dog and the five year old (girl) American Bull get along great. The Rotti and my older dog, not so much. The puppy is 15 months old and has not been neutered yet. My Heeler has never been friendly with other dogs especially the same sex; male dogs. The Rotti has bitten my Heeler twice in the past year and is continually showing dominance over him. I am afraid that I am going to have to break up with my boyfriend. He is not training the puppy, and when I bring it up he says he does not want to talk about it or fight. I want my old guy to have his golden years and stress free life for whatever days, weeks, years he has left.... I am so upset and torn. I don't know what to do. I am preparing for an ultimatum... Either he disciplines the dog or we go

7 Mo. Rottie lunges, growls and bites me at random- so confused

by Marcy
(Leo, IN)

I'm in need of some serious help. My 7 Mo. Rottie lunges, growls and bites me at random. We have had her since she was 9 weeks old. At first we thought this activity was because she was just a puppy and needed teaching but it has not stopped, in fact she is well on her way to weighing 70 pounds and is large now. We have worked with a behaviorist, used a shock collar, manual methods of restraint such a pulling up on her collar into a sit, positive reinforcement, proper negative reinforcement to no avail. She does this at random. Sometimes we can see that she is getting stirred up when she is stimulated such as playing but it ends up with someone getting hurt. She can all of a sudden start attacking her leash on a walk, then lunging up and biting me. One day I just walked out the back door and she ran to me, growled, jumped on and started biting me. She is very powerful and when she does this it hurts, brusies and seriously scares us. We are embarrassed and worried as our neighbors can see what she does and it is really bad to watch. She does not limit these actions to just me, she is this way with my husband and my 9 year old daughter. This is scaring me and my family so very much. I have worked so hard, been committed and am at the end of my rope. I want to love her more but I'm so confused. Can you please help?

Sincerely,
Marcy Dickerson

Aggressive 8 month old Rottie

by Dawn L.

We have an 8mo old Rottie. He has just recently started to get moody. He has attempted to bite out other dog for absolutely no reason and twice this week has has attempted to bite me and my husband (for touching his back feet). I want to correct this behavior before it gets worse but not sure what to do! The attempts were not olay and he was definitely angry!

Terrible Twos - Aggressive Rottie

by Amanda
(Ontario, Canada)

We adopted a 2 year old rottie-shepard from the humane society about 8 months ago. He is a very lovable dog toward us, unfortunately he is overly aggressive towards other animals and strangers. He barks and jumps towards strangers no matter how far they are. He will choke himself on his leash or even break the leash trying to attack other animals. We were told he might just want to smell them but this isn't the case, we have tried and he will attack them. At home around our family including our 2 year old son he is a suck. At times he can be a little too hyper or excited and knocks someone down but is immediately apologetic. He barks at every sound he hears or anything he see's moving from the windows. During walks he pulls constantly regardless of corrections or environment. How would we go about socializing him within our community?

11 week old female rottweiler

by Quinn
(Wasaga Beach , Ontario, Canada)

Hi my name is Quinn, my Puppy Rottweiler is doing as I read really normal puppy things? I'm just worried that at times it seems like she takes it a bit to far. I just got her 4 nights and 3 days ago so I realize this could have a lot to do with it!

Her name is duchess I guess I should start with she has already been to 4 different homes with mine being the forth poor thing and that's not including the breeder so really 5 houses ! This worries me , I'm praying because she is young i should be able to re directed her behaviour! They all admitted that they didn't have the time or attention span to deal with a puppy with everything that was going on in their life's! And to tell the truth she is quite the handful , in a matter of speaking I can understand why they didn't want to keep her as she is a lot of work and truly a full time commitment ...

I am more than willing to devote all the time she needs as at the moment I'm not employed and won't be for a while ... So I have more than enough time for her! I have been doing some reading and a Lot of the stuff says that this is Normal behaviour but i am still concerned about her
behaviour it truly worries me. She gets overly excited and at the moment I don't have a crate but am getting one in couple weeks! So for now when she nibbles at my hands with more than just a chew i take my hands away and say no , then some times she'll run from one side of the house to the other (my house real isn't all that big)and runs at me and grabs me by my legs feet and ankles... I'll tell her no and try to redirect the behaviour to a toy, sometimes it works and I reward her with praises or at times a treat here or there! When it doesn't work I firmly say no and take my hands away and at times she goes at my feet . I then have to put her collar and leash on for her to calm down she will continue to try for a little until she realizes she's not getting anywhere! She also growls, sometimes when I go to pick her up? And during the first couple days she would growl when I would go near her face to kiss her? If I look her in the eyes for to long she growls?! And at other times she's fine?

I know that a few people that were living with my girlfriend that have me the dog were ruff housing her and I think someone threw her! I haven't hit her, the worst I have done is grab her by her snout! I try to ignore the behaviour as websites have said to do but still want her to know its in acceptable and moms boss!

Help please any suggestions would help !

Thanks so much !
