Nippy husky - may be my fault

by Tamara
(Sudbury, ontario)

My husband and I have a 5 month old husky male who is awesomely smart but has selective hearing and likes to bolt when he gets the chance.

He is a super happy pup and knows commands but sometimes tries to ignore us for simple commands.

When he bolts and runs off we would catch him eventually with a spank on the bum and crate time.

Unfortunately bum spanking is a norm seeing as he doesnt take us seriously unless we are firm. Today I caught him after a bolting episode and instead of a spank I tried to firmly guide him inside by the collar. Twice today doing that he has tried to nip my hand and bared his teeth while doing so..

I do understand there are better alternatives yo an occasional bum tap but nothing else works to get him to take us seriously. He is starting obedience training this month but I still was hoping for help.

Thanks in advance.

Aggressive Husky/Lab Mixed Puppy

by Paula K.
(Lansing, Michigan)

I have a husky/lab mixed puppy who is now six months old. I have trained dogs before and do not accept aggression when it comes to food or toys etc. However, for some reason she seems to become aggressive playing later in the evenings and at bed time. She does sleep with me usually. What she does is start with the puppy lunge at you while she is growling and barking and she tries to grab your hand or arm with her teeth and pull and then she jumps away. She does this very quickly and it is sometimes very hard to catch her to stop this behavior. She will also do this at night when we are watching tv. All of a sudden she becomes puppy crazy and starts running all over the house and up and over us on the couch again with the lunging, growling and barking at us in a very aggressive manner. Why is she doing this? She is usually sweet, lovable and easy to control. Then she gets crazy and out of control. Any suggestions to stopping this unwanted behavior? I have started to kennel her when she is bad but that is becoming more kennel time than I would like her to have. I have also started to kennel her at night because of her attacking me at bedtime. I have tried aggressive (using a choke chain, spraying her with vinegar, smacking her with rolled up newspaper) and non aggressive (trying to sooth her, revert her attention or get her to lie down or sit) ways to stop this behavior and nothing is working. She can tend to be really scarey when she gets into this mod. Help!

Aggressive play biting husky puppy

I got a husky puppy a couple of weeks ago, hes now 12 weeks old. At first he was fine but now every time we try to play with him, he always bites really hard. He has even broken skin and almost drew blood. We have tried telling him ''no'' in firm voices when he tries to bite, yelping when he actually does, time out if he kept going, ignoring him and even holding him on his side. Most of the day, he's actually pretty fine and will mind his own business but he gets burst of energy and just goes wild. Is there any other thing we can actually do to curb his behavior?

agressive husky/lab mix puppy

(frederick md)

Hi, We've had Vixen now for almost a week. She is 9 weeks old and seems to be agressive. I will pick her up and she growls at me and bites me. She's drawn blood twice because her teeth are like razor needles. We tell her no very firmly and try putting a toy in her mouth instead. I've had dogs my whole life and have never seen a puppy react this way. I hope this is just a phase and not a sign of what may come. She's super cute and I'm already in love with her but it's a concern that she's making me bleed.
Thanks for your help!

Husky does not listen.

by Trinity
(Chisasibi, QC. Canada.)

My beautiful husky.

My beautiful husky.

I have a female husky that is around 5-7 months who might be mixed with a wolf and is also not spayed. She is pretty large for her age. After I got her, the man who gave her to me said she might not be a full-breed and that she might be half wolf, but he wasn't too sure. He was only fostering her and he has three Rottweilers and she got along with all of them. She is used to being with other dogs and I don't know if she feels lonely without other dog's company. But I read that behaviour changes could mean she is in heat. So I don't know if that's why she's been acting up lately. There are also no vets where I live and the nearest one is 15 hours away so I cannot spay her. When I first got her, she was very gentle, sweet and never bit me. It's been almost three months and lately, all of a sudden, in the past two weeks, she's been acting different. She barks a lot and likes to bite and fight other dogs, even though she is smaller than most. And I recently bought a new puppy for my boyfriend and she sees the puppy as prey. She's been trying to kill it since I got him. I know how dogs play or show the other who is boss, but this is extremely different. She doesn't understand what "no" means and refuses to listen. She doesn't know when she is in trouble and doesn't care, she does whatever she pleases. She also still pees in the house and it's frustrating. I have owned dogs all my life and they all turned out to be amazing and this one is the hardest and most stubborn one I've had to deal with. I don't know what to do with her. I really don't want to let her go but I also don't want her to kill the puppy or turn out to be a really aggressive dog. Please help.

Agressive Husky Puppy

by Chasity
(Missouri )

We just brought home our 8 week husky puppy last week and i have noticed a couple of things that kinda scary me. I keep asking myself if we are doing something wrong....

Any help would be appreciated!

He will bite/nip at me throughout the day and even growls at me when i tell him No or pick him up.

When we are all laying down he will even go for my face and try to bite/nip at me.

I have gotten to the point where its hard for me to play with him because he will bite me.
I have tried to yelp, at a high pitch but it doesn't seem to work

He will do this even when i am trying to just simply show him love.

He doesn't seem to want to do this with my husband..
we are both young and really do love him. We are super excited to have him in our life.

here is some other information that might be helpful:

We are training him to ring the bell hanging from the door when he needs to potty, sometimes he will do it and others he won't..

He ges potty just about every time we go outside, he has had a couple of accidents (i know i will happen)

He tends to sleep a lot somedays and not so much on other days

we are feeding him high protein food (Taste of the Wild)

He gets plenty of water

One down fall we have is that we DO let him sleep with us.

But when we are gone he goes in his kennel.. which is just enough room for him to stand up, turn around and lay down in for right now.. He seems to whine for the first couple of minutes.

Im sure I'm forgetting something but thats just some basic information

We also plan to take him to puppy training classes as soon as he gets his other vaccines
we pretty much have this already set up

Aggressive,Seperation Anxiety Siberian Husky puppy

(Bokchito,Oklahoma,U.S.A)

I bought a husky when she was 5 weeks old she's the runt and she doesn't listen very well. Now she is 4 months old and she's biting me and my family. She doesn't stop at all even if we punish her by saying "NO" we even tried saying "OUCH" and it doesn't work. She hates the word no or when you smack her on the butt with a flip flop.I don't know what else to do.She thinks she is the dominant one and my grandmother wants to baby her all the time and say everything will be okay and goes behind my back and gives her what she wants. She's doesn't like being in the cage at night either she wants to keep howling I get its a husky but she's been in the cage at night ever since we got her and she still howls and mouths and everything else. Right now I can't afford puppy classes to stop this what else can I do?

nips and growls from 9 wk old husky, normal puppy behaviour or not?

by Mel
(central coast, nsw, Australia)

Our 9 wk old husky, bites and chews on everything, as expected, but when told no, she growls and snaps.
She also growls and bites Any visitors.
We also have 3 children, the youngest is only 8 months old, so the aggressive behaviour needs a solution asap. Also we have a 7 yo weimeraner who is being very good, but I'm worried he's going to really bite and hurt her if she keeps growling and biting at him

And we have to keep them separated. The puppy already got him a few good times where he has bled from his mouth and nose and now he has a chunk of his nose that was tore off and it breaks my heart. I love my dogs. And I also have a baby that is due in 4 weeks. I just wanna know why she is so mean this early and if there is anything I can do to help her become nice and not aggressive and mean :(

excessively rough play biting 12 week old husky

by kristina
(parksley, virginia, usa )

we own three huskies, the latest edition is our male zephyr. we brought him home at 8 weeks, he is now 12 weeks old now. I know already he has a more dominant personality than the 1 yr old boy or two year old girl we already own, already play humping study toys, and looking to assert himself and establish where he stands in the pack (all normal puppy behaviors) however in the last week I've noticed he has become excessively rough in play, and though we have not used our hands directly wrestling with him, he is biting hands and feet, and will growl when picked up ans attempt to bite.(not acceptable behaviors) I am teaching the "off" command via positive reinforcement, and he's got that he doesn't receive the reward in till he stops touching and waits but it's not helping. any suggestions?

Okay I don't actually think my puppy is "aggressive" but I can't seem to get her to stop attacking my moms Pomeranians. I know she's just trying to play or at least I'm pretty sure she's just trying to play, but I can't seem to get her to stop.

Aggressive Siberian Husky

by Devin
(Las Vegas )

I have a 4 yr old husky I got at 1 yr from a rescue. He has lived in my house for the last 3 years. He has bit me twice for trying to take something from him once and trying to swat him on the butt the other time. Tonight I found him downstairs with something in his mouth and when I tried to take it he came at me teeth barred snarling and lunging. I fully believe that he would have attacked me give the chance. I managed to get the sliding glass door open and he went outside but not before lunging and trying to bite me as I was trying to get the door open. This is my boyfriends dog and he is out of town. I have a 6 yr old daughter and my boyfriend doesn't get home until next tuesday. I am a veterinary technician and I am not afraid of dogs I am legitimately afraid of this one now and I am not sure what to do. He for sure is not coming back in the house tonight but what do I do now.
