My Aggressive Maltipoo

by Lauren
(Vancouver, WA)

My five year-old Maltipoo has become more aggressive, even towards dogs she knows. She's always been a barker, something I've been battling for years - with little progress. Now, though, she has taken to barking and sniping at almost any dog - she's even run across the street to get at a Great Dane! She is not selfish with her toys, chew sticks, food or my attention toward her best friend, a Bichon, who she sees for hours at a time, almost every day. I am on a very limited income, so a private trainer is beyond my means. Before I got her and after, I watched every "Dog Whisperer" program and really tried to adhere to his insructions and thought I did a pretty good job. Now, however, I just don't know what to do. I've gone so far as holding her hair around her mouth and telling her "NO!" to giving her a little spank - with very firm "Not barking doggies!", to harness jerking when we are on walks - nothing seems to help and she's getting worse. Her health, excersise and eating habits are very good. Now what??

Nothing In Life Is Free

Nothing In Life Is Free

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
