Mocha

We rescued mocha who had been returned to the shelter. We knew he had social issues but once we was fine with us--he at my was the most lovable dob. He loves to give kisses to my husband--constantly kissing and just happy go lucky. He gets out of the house for runs, hikes, car rides, etc. and has free roam of the house at any given time. He sleeps between us with his face looking at my husband. We have had him for 6 months with no issues to us but with others he is afraid, barks and growls. Three days ago my husband was walking up the stairs and Mocha started growling at him. Mocha had been given a bone and it was sitting there but my husband was not even near the bone nor would he touch the bone. So, Mocha was yelled at but no hand raising, hitting or anything--just telling him he is wrong and that is not nice. Ever since then Mocha has become aggressive towards my husband growling barking and lunging but has not bite him. It is almost like he has a different attitude in the house because we have taken him for runs since this incident and he is perfectly fine towards us both but as soon as we are back in the house his personality totally changes. And we can not get him off focus once he focuses on his 'issue' and this has been happening since we adopted him. We are looking for a therapist/trainer to work with him to see if these issues can be solved or not.

Nothing In Life Is Free
by: Adam G. Katz

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
