Rotwiller puppy biting too hard

by Charlotte
(Nottingham)

I am a 21 year old student living at home with my mum. She brought a dog who is now 4 months old. she is always biting me but its not just playful she will snap at me and her fur stands up on her back. Also she knows she is doing wrong because she will look at my mum first to see if she could get away with it. Ive tried being more dominant and not let her get away with it by putting her on time out but still no luck. she now weights 52 pounds and i cant control her or push her off me as easily anymore. Is there anything you could suggest?

Biting 9 month old mini goldendoodle

by Michelle
(Grand Rapids MI)

when playing my puppy can get bitey. I've tried turning my back on him, ignoring, and if I say "no" and he stops I reward him with "yes" and "good boy". Yet, when we are playing he often can start biting.

Tonight my teenage neighbor girls came over who he doesn't know. He got very excited, jumping, biting at their hands. They turned their back on him but he grabbed on to a leg and started humping. He continued to get wild and more bitey. I got him and thought I would hold him to get him to calm down but he started biting my hand to - more than just the mouthing biting.

What should I do to stop the biting behavior - as well as the jumping - which is generally on new people who come into my home.

Anti-biting techniques making dog more aggressive

by Meg
(Boston, MA USA)

Photo attached just for cuteness.

Photo attached just for cuteness.

Hi,

Thanks for taking these questions. I have a 4 month old Chihuahua/Terrier Mix. He's a great dog in many senses but his biting tendencies are getting worse. We've tried two tactics to train him not to bite:

1. Saying Ow loudly and withdrawing (removing ourselves when he bites)

2. Playing "Out of the pack" and physically removing him when he bites.

Both of these tactics seem to make our dog more aggressive. In the first instance, he seems to feel as if he's winning and plays harder. In the second he just gets mad and comes back more ferocious.

Are there any other tactics you'd recommend trying? I'm concerned we won't be able to beat this.

Thank you!

Kinda aggressive Mini Schanuzer puppy biting

by Macy
(Minnesota )

Our mini Schanuzer who isn't even a year old lately has been a bit aggressive and not just puppy playful no this isn't that. Ever since we brought him a rawhide bone like a real pig home home from the store we tried taking it away from him because it was small and we didn't want him to chock, but he growled, so we thought oh just a puppy playing or whatever well that wasn't it, we couldn't get it away without him biting me and I mean hard! As in it broke my skin and bled, I had to grab my dogs head and push it to the fool just to take away the bone without getting bit. I know it's mean but I didn't want to get seriously hurt and I tried everything else. Then after that I put him in his kennel, and when I was locking it he almost got my hand. And just now he acted up again he. I was just sitting in a chair watching tv. I was petting him in the way I always do and he always enjoys it and he just snapped randomly! So I out him in his kennel and he tried biting my hand off again! I don't want to get rid of him because he has a nice dog and he's only a mini Schanuzer and he isn't even a year old! I think he's about 9 months. Now about a week ago I give him just a normal bone, nothing added on it or nothing just a normal bone like a treat kinda and I was gonna take it away because I was going to sleep and he always chews his bone I close to where I'm at, anyway, I was gonna take it away so I didn't have to listen to the annoying chewing but he growled at me and bit me and got a good chunk of skin! I put him in his kennel again showing he was naughty, but he is truly an awesome dog, so someone please help! Anything I can do?

Constant play biting in my 13 week old mastiff puppy

by Jimmy c
(Colorado springs, co)

My 13 week old english mastiff female does not know her own strength. Although she is play biting, she refuses to respond to NO or NO BITING. She's a very sweet puppy but hurts when she nips. How can i allow a certain amount of this which i know is normal but get her to stop when she goes overboard?

Biting is outta control with my gsd female 16 weeks old

by Wendy
(Michigan )

We recieved our GSD when she was 8 weeks old. She was sweet and not much biting. House broke her in 3 days, crate trained her in one day. She is 16 weeks old now. She bites like crazy. She bites my kids constantly. She has bit my face also a few times. I am afraid we will have to get rid of her. She has had all her shots and will be getting spayed in a few weeks. She knows sit, leave it and down. She plays catch also already. Biting has got to stop. She sliced the bottom of my son's foot with her tooth. Pretty bad too. My kids are 6 and 7 years old. My daughter is scared of her. What to do? I have yelped, use the command, leave it (which works sometimes till she talks back at me), tell her no. I have grab her bottom jaw under the tongue. Nothing is working. Help??

Over-biting Labradoodle male puppy

This was from the summer; November now. But a good one of him

This was from the summer; November now. But a good one of him

My family and I bought a labradoodle male puppy when he was 7 weeks old. He is now about 8 months old. I am the only one in my family, or of people that come overx that he bites almost all the time. The bites feel too hard and excessive to be for fun. When we got him, he had 2 of 3 shots of a set. We didn't ever get him the 3rd shot because my dad didn't ever ask about it. He's a farm dog so don't usually get shots for our dogs. I've already tried spraying him with cold water and hot water. I've tried closing his mouth and tapping his snoUT saying "no!"
Nothing has worked. If yiu could you please help me teach him not to bite, I would be appreciative. Thank you.

Cairn Terrier pup biting aggressively

by Keith T
(NJ)

We brought home an 11 week old Cairn Terrier last Saturday. Very calm and mellow for the first 3 days. He has been wrestling and playing with our 6 month old cat. They seem to get along well. Tonight he was nipping when he was on our lap. He was corrected with "No Biting" and a slight tap on the nose. He responded aggressively. I held him by the neck to make him submit and said "No Biting" then I placed him in his crate (in hind site I know that putting him in crate was wrong)
I am more concerned about him doing this to my 4 year old son. They are never alone together as we are house training and he is under my supervision or in his crate at all times. He gets tons of outdoor time and is in his crate minimally. I have had dogs all my life and never experienced this kind of aggression. It only happened once but definitely shocking to me from such a young pup. Should I stop the cat dog play?

4 month old puppy biting and barking

by Heather
(Milwaukee, WI)

Bella

Bella

Hello! I adopted an 8 week old Bluetick Hound/Boxer mix from the humane society. She was in a litter of 12 pups, I am not sure if the mother died or not. She was brought to Wisconsin when she was 6 weeks old. She is now 4 months old and have been struggling a lot of her biting and barking. If she does not get her way she bites and draws blood. I can't get her harness on because she will bite. When I take her outside she plops on the grass and will not move at times, when I try to pick her up she bites and growls at me. When I am sitting on the chair watching tv, she comes up by me and I hold a bone for her to chew, when she gets bored with chewing on it she starts to bite me and growl. She will not listen to me. She does know how to sit and am trying to train her to come. There have been many times that I was going to give her up because I am not sure if she has behavior issues or if this is normal. She acts like an alligator whipping her head and trying to bite a lot and it is scary at times. Please let me know if this is normal.

aggressive yorkie, biting and barking, 3 years old

by Steffie
(chicago )

We recently inherited a yorkie, about 3 years old.she knew us from before, so she is comfortable with us. Whenever she is being held by someone, she becomes aggressive and will bite whoever is near. If she is put down, most of the time she won't respond that way. How can we stop her from biting? She also barks at every noise she hears, and will not respond to being put in her cage, or being "stern" with her. We own a chihuahua who is the exact opposite of her. They get along very well. I just need to get the yorkie to stop biting and barking. Please help. Thank you.

4 month old Shih tzu, cocker spaniel mix angry biting

by Sandra
(Utah)

We got her when she was 6 weeks old, I know that is pretty young and didn't get the chance to learn much from mom and siblings. The current problem is angry aggression. We are trying to get her not to bite while playing and having some success but there are times when she will be running around and pick up something that she is not supposed to have and when we try to take it away from her she will growl and bite. I know this is normal but don't know how to go about making her stop.

My 6 month old Staffy is Nipping and biting.

by Paul
(UK)

Hi,
We have had Cooper my Staffy from 8 weeks old. He has what I believe gone through the biting phase that all puppies go through. But Cooper is still nipping and playful biting "well I think it is playful."

With me and my children who are adult age he never nips and he tends to put our hands into his mouth and starts to just play fight. But with my wife and she is the one that Cooper will follow everywhere and sits at the side of her. But Cooper does nip her and does bite her arm actually drawing blood. The wife cannot sit down unless he goes over to her and starts to play which leads to him being too rough with his mouth. When she takes him for walks he will jump up at her and start to bite her hands which makes her embarrassed because other people are around. To stop him she has got out of her chair and stood up with her hands folded across her chest and she does not take him on, but then he will start to bark and then he will nip at her feet.

With me he does try and put my hands in his mouth but in a stern voice I shout "no biting" and he then stops to which I praise him and with each day he will come to me for a stroke without the biting or nipping, but none of this will work for the wife, we have tried making certain loud noises when he does it "like slapping a newspaper on our hands, even tried a air horn but none worked. We will never ever smack Cooper. I honestly think he has too much energy and what he believes is playing is more serious than play fighting. He does get a daily walk of 3 miles per day.

Could you please suggest something that you think might work

aggressive biting?

by michelle
(channel islands)

I have a 10 week old bull terrier cross staffy. He bites and most of the time when u say drop or no her will stop...However sometimes it seems to just make him worse and he bites down harder and runs at u to bite u and nothing I say or do seems to work. I put him in a time out in a separate room to try and calm him down and correct this behaviour. Sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't but he often makes me bleed. We have an older pure staffy age 7 and she is very placid....she used to play with him but now my older dog doesn't want to have him anywhere near her and will tell him off....of course he doesn't listen. I am worried my new dog is showing aggresive behaviour but I don't know because we got my other dog at 8 months so I have never owned a puppy this young. Am I doing the right thing? Is this aggression? And will he grow out of it.

aggressive 10 mo. havanese Poodle biting visitors

by Naomi
(Puyallup, WA)

I have two female pomeranians (age 24 mo and 18 mo) who are fairly well behaved BUT do at least once a day get into a fight always stemming on attention and jealousy. About 6 months ago my daughter and her hava-poo moved in with us and he was VERY stand off-ish at first. He would bark at me constantly and I just patiently ignored it until he was used to me. Now we are best buddies. he used to run clear when my girls would have their daily jealousy match, but recently (within the last 2 months) will jump in and bite the girls usually on the face when they fight which causes a much larger altercation and gets pretty vicious. I havent seen blood on the dogs yet... but I think its coming. Our hava-poo also hates all guests at our house. Especially children. I have 5 grand sons and so this is a problem. My daughter generally keeps him on a short leash while they are here- but that is really difficult -especially if they are here for several days. He as nipped very hard at 2 of the boys and bruised them but didnt break the skin. What is odd is the boys were ignoring him when he went after them. One boy (age 5) walked by him while he was on the leash and calm and he turned around and lunged at him and bit his arm. it was pretty scary. same thing happened with the 3 year old.
then last week my sister (an avid dog lover- has 3 of her own) was over with her two adult daughters and he would not stop agressively barking at them. My daughter held him so he wouldnt get away. then my poms had their daily jealous rage and my sister went to pick up my older pom- when she did our Hava-poo (thackery) lunged at her and bit her VERY deep on her hand. I was really shocked. He just wouldnt stop barking. My daughter took him downstairs so he was away from everyone - and she was very upset too. We cant figure out what to do. We will start puppy training classes next week with all 3 dogs, but my daughter is convinced this will not help and that he is just a "biter" and cant be re-taught. Please help us. it is just a matter of time until he goes after a neighbor.....
