Help my mixed breed female is aggressive to new puppy

by Kimberly

Hello, I have a mixed breed female (6 yrs.) from Costa Rica, she looks like a lab mix. Also a male Rottweiler (3 yrs) and female miniature dachshund (8 yrs). All are spayed and neutered. They all get along fine. We recently saved a female rottie boxer mix puppy from a high kill shelter. The rottie loves her. The mini dachshund plays well with her, but my lab mix female is very aggressive to her. Anytime the puppy comes near her she growls and snaps at her. When I walk them or they are outside in the back yard she is fine. They all have free run of the house. And sleep in the bed with me. I am currently building them there own beds. What can I do to teach the lab mix not to be aggressive to the puppy? She is super smart.

Nothing In Life Is Free

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
