Help! I have an Attack Bassador Puppy!

by Darlene
(Jax,Florida)

Hi there, We recently became parents to a Bassador puppy who is now 31/2 months old. We had adopted a kitten several weeks before getting the puppy. Without getting into detail, let me just say, this was not the plan! Ever since we have had this puppy,he has been a biter, and not just a teething playful,or warning biter. He is very aggressive. Allday long I have to scold him about biting myself or my son,my feet, kneecaps, pants, anything he may be able to get a hold of that is not human. At first, the dog and cat didn't interact that much ,then they started playing. It started to get a lil rough but neither one disliked it. Every now and then the kitten,Milo, would screech when the puppy,Otis, would bite to hard, but not to often. Now,more often then not,the puppy is biting hard from first interaction alot.Sometimes putting the whole kittens head in his mouth. There are very few fun and cute moments with Otis. We can not play or get close to him without being bit constantly. I can calm him down sometimes by asking him "where's my good boy" and being firm. He will soften has bite,I will keep asking him as he starts to give kisses, and constant reminders of "No biting, give sugars and kisses!" I am exhausted at the end of the day, because of this dog,not to mention the stubborn resistance e to go potty outside, which is exhausting in itself because he goes every five minutes it seems and almost always as soon as he comes in from outside. Please, please help me. I don't want him to end up in a shelter or w an owner who is less tolerant and might harm him. Dying for your response! Thank you! Darlene

Nothing In Life Is Free
by: Adam G. Katz

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
