Alfie tries to bite and shows his teeth and can look mean.

(Pueblo, Co.)

We have a 10 month old Terrier Mix who was rescued with his brother from a high kill shelter in Kansas and sent to
Lucky Dog Shelter in Colorado Springs, Co.
We got him when he was 8 weeks old. He is very, very smart, and was hard to potty train because he is very stubborn. My husband and I really love him, but he listens to me pretty well and is getting a lot better.
Only problem is now he is trying to bite and showing his teeth more. Now little, by little, he is getting worse when he does not want to do something, he tries to hide where you cannot get to him easily and when I try to get him collar. he meanly shows his teeth, and I am sure if provoked enough he would probably bite. He is only about 20 pounds and wonder if he might have Korgie or Jack Russell Terrier in his Mix, do not know.
I don't want him to bite because he is a sweet dog
in every other way. He can be so good, but this behavior
is not good and I do not want him to bite and be taken away.
He has never shown his teeth at our 10 year old grandson
when they play.
I do not think he is a mean dog, but likes to have his way.
I would really appreciate some advice, and if you think this can be stopped, or if he was mistreated in Kansas Shelter?
We never rescued a dog before
We would appreciate any advice you can give.

Thank you.

He is brown with white and very cute, ears do not stick out. He does shed. Sorry do not have picture I can send now.

Nothing In Life Is Free
by: Adam G. Katz

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
