Aggressive St Bernard Puppy

by Courtny
(Utah)

Recently I got a st Bernard puppy (moose) he is 8 weeks to date. I know he is little but I have some questions, at first he was really good and got along with my other dog (Harley, she's a corgi-mix of 3 yrs) but within the last week or so he has started to be very aggressive towards my boyfriend and Harley. When he plays with Harley they start out very innocently, then as they progress it seems to end with her running away with her tail between her legs and jumping on the bed out of reach. When moose and my boyfriend play most of the time it ends with moose growling and barking very violently to the point where in afraid if I don't hold him very still & tight he will freak and bite me or my boyfriend. Harley loves my boyfriend so I don't think it's him. I adopted Harley when she was just over a year old and I have never had any problems like this with her. I'm afraid if we don't find out what's making him tick soon he will grow to become a bully to Harley and maybe people too? I want a pup I can trust and feel comfortable with. What do I do?

Nothing In Life Is Free
by: Adam G. Katz

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
