Aggressive puppy- adopted 8 weeks old

by Kristin
(Michigan )

We adopted our puppy from a vet. We have only had her for 5 days, but she is already growling at us and running to bite us when we walk or when we are just sitting she will be playing with a toy and then charge me and bite down hard. I have tried saying no or yelping, but those seem to make her angrier and bite harder. Any suggestions? We don't know her history since she is adopted and we think she is a boxer Shepard mix. I want to be sure we train to stop this early as I fear she may continue with aggression all her life.

Nothing In Life Is Free
by: Adam G. Katz

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
