Aggressive Boston Terrier

by Cathy
(Holly Springs, NC)

We have a six-year-old Boston Terrier we adopted 2 1/2 years ago. He is very lovable to us, but wants to attack any new people or any dogs who come near. We are at the point of giving him up but it is so difficult because we love him and he loves us so much. He bit the finger of two neighbors in our old house. We just moved into a new house with a fenced yard. There is a nature path behind us and anytime he sees a dog or people on path, he starts barking and goes into a zone where he will not respond to anything we say. There are dogs on each side of us and our new neighbors are avoiding taking their dogs out in their back yards. We are two seniors in our seventies and don't know what to do.

Nothing In Life Is Free
by: Adam G. Katz

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
