Aggressive Blue Tick coonhound/ lab mix

(belvidere, no, U.S. )

i adopted Riley from a foster home when he was 8 weeks old. He is 9 months old now. He really is a good dog but if he doesn't want you near him for whatever reason he will get aggressive and has drawn lots of blood throughout my family. He has never done this to an outsider just us. He barks non stop at strangers but not at other animals. I don't understand why he snaps at me. He doesn't have aggression with his food, I can give it, go near it and even take it away and he doesn't care but if we have food, he has something he shouldn't or just doesn't want you near him he snaps. I have never had a problem with any of my other dogs one being a Pit Bull who was one of a kind, the sweetest and best behaved dog ever. He passed away 2 years ago and we adopt this one and it's not been an enjoyable experience so far. I will not give him up nor put him down. I just need help

Nothing In Life Is Free

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
