Aggressive 5 month Great Dane mix. Dog to Dog

by Robyn
(Chattanooga Tn.)

Hi, i just adopted a 5 month old Great Dane mix from a local shelter. His name is Abe. He is great with human touch, shows no aggression towards human, and no signs of abuse from another human. But not does he show it towards my other 2 make dogs. 3 yr old American Mast. Mix and a 2 year old pit that are both fixed. He has shown moments where it as if he forgets he wants to be mad.. And then he will bark and go toward them. He came to the shelter with a cast from a broken leg.. He rebroke it while there, the fixed him up and put him on minimum movie ment. I did not know about it until I left with him and noticed His legs positioned odd when he was standing or sitting down. I go thru his folder that they gave me and I there I find out about His leg. I did run my hand down to his leg close to the hip and he is still very sore. So I have him gated in the bathroom with a large crate to heal his leg completely. I can see that his aggression comes from being in pain and wanting to protect himself.. But can I count on this aggression letting up?

Nothing In Life Is Free

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
