My name is Stacey and I have 2 registered male Akitas. Rueben is the 3 year old and Duece is a 4 year old. Both temperaments are as different as night and day. Duece is kid/people loving and obedient. Rueben on the other hand is not. I got Rueben as a puppy and he has grown up with my grandchildren around. I have had 2 warning bites to 2 of my grandchildren, which left minor scrathes, no bruising or open wounds. We separate Rueben from the family when the grandkids come over. The other day Raeliegh my 8 year old granddaughter rode the bus to my house, I put Rueben in my bedroom with a gate up as always. My son and I were in the kitchen, Rae was in the living area. Rueben somehow came out from the laundry room, crossed thru the kitchen where I was and attacked Raeliegh. By the time she called my name and I saw Rueben with his body lowered walking towards her...he had lunged at her face and with his body threw he down into the couch. I grabbed him and pulled him back and he pulled in again with a second bite to her shoulder and neck area. Raeliegh had to have 8 stiches to her eye and shoulder. There is a lot of bruising to her thigh and shoulder. I have an appointment with my vet to put Ruby down on October 25. We have to wait the 10 day observation. I am struggling with following through with this decision. Biting is not acceptable but Ruby's life matters to me too. Can anyone help me...… Ruby has had some obedience/behavior training and it was cut short because he had surgery for hip dysplasia twice. Is it too late for him to be trained? I am so lost : (
