Aggressive Chihuahua

by Victoria
(Maryland)

We rescued a Chihuahua a year ago (in Nov. 2012)and we named him Mojo, he is now about 2 years old. Within a week of bringing Mojo into our home our female Chihuaua, Pebbles, went into heat for the first time. Unfortunately, she got pregnant. We now have 1 male puppy we named Reese, from this union. In July, when the puppy was about 5 mos. old, Mojo began to follow him around incessantly. We realized he would try to keep Reese from Pebbles. When we tried to keep him from Reese, Mojo would become aggressive toward us, he was not displaying any aggression toward the puppy at this time. Within 2 weeks, if Reese barked Mojo would fly into him with such aggression and intensity it was frightening, Reese hid under the couch and would poke his nose out before deciding it was safe to come out again. Within another week it escalated into Mojo attacking Reese on sight.

We currently have Mojo closed off from him in the kitchen. When Mojo sees Reese he will bark like crazy and try to jump over the gate to get to him. Reese is an intact 9month old male Chihuahua. Mojo is a neutered 2year old male Chihuahua. Pebbles is now spayed and clueless in all this and seems completely unaffected.

We are in the process of getting Reese's shots, second round in 2 weeks, caught up, then we will have him neutered also. I thought having Mojo neutered would help, but it hasn't.

Has anyone experienced something like this or have some advice to give. Mojo is aggressive toward our cat also. Yet when I walk him or take him to the vet he is oblivious to other animals. He simply doesn't care, unless they are in our house I guess. I at first thought territorial, but now I'm just not sure. I am trying to socialize him more and I just took him to our local pet store and he was so afraid of the other animals he wouldn't walk he just coward, went to the bathroom and stood in it. It was horrible.

I feel so bad for him. He's been through so much in his little life, abused and neglected by his previous owner, I want to help him, without the puppy around he's sweet and loving and plays with Pebbles. It's simply when our cat (male neutered) or the puppy is within eyesight that he's a different dog. Any advice or tips would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Aggressive Chihuahua Dachshund Mix

by Uyen
(Milpitas, CA)

I've had my puppy for a week, he was 8-9 weeks when I got him and he has been showing signs of aggression.

When I try to play with him, he likes to jump and snap at my face. He always shows teeth and has started growling even when I just want to pet him, he tries to bite my hand. I'm not sure if its because he's uncomfortable or if it's something else.

I've tried the time out method, and the ouch method but it doesnt work. He still jumps at me. I'll be taking him to the vet as soon as I can, but for now, I'm very scared to play with my little pup.

Aggressive Chihuahua puppy

by Brian
(Ontario, Canada)

Our Chihuahua puppy is 7 months old and he is very aggressive towards our 7 year old Chinese Crested, he is the most tender and loving Crested. The puppy always chases him an growling at him an jumping on him during the chase. Lewie the Crested can not even come off the couch sometimes because hes scared of Eddy the Chihuahua.

When this happens as soon as we get up to stop this Eddy runs away and hide, then he comes out an continues this behaviour. He also give our 6 year old Yorkie-Chihuahua mix a hard time trying to get her to play with him, she will snap at him and chase him to get him to stop but he is non stop, it seems he just doesn't get it Ebony tries to discipline him but he keeps coming at her, we try to let them settle this but Eddy is just not learning, he only stops when we stand up to stop it.

What can we do to get Eddy out of this aggressive behaviour?

aggressive pittbull terrier and chihuaha mix

by JJ
(Seattle)

I have a year and a half pomeranian and chihuahua mix (boy), and I just got the pittbull terrier and chihuahua mix for my husband for his birthday, she is six weeks old. The two dogs are opposite sex the pomchi is a boy. The pitt likes to play as well as the pom but she starts off by nipping or biting which sometimes will get the pomchi to play back with nipping at her ears and mounting her and even grabbing and turning her so she falls on her back. He will even run past her and brush her and this makes her mad so she starts trying to catch him and bite, and then shes growling too.

I want to train them to be good playmates and respect eachother. Oh they also fight over toys. The pomchi will want what she has even if he has his own copy of the very same thing. She tries to eat some of his food and he will growl and snap at her, but he does the same thing to her.

What to do, what to do?

Aggressive Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix

by Paulette
(Winchendon, Ma U.S.)

I have a 9 mo. old Pomeranian/chihuahua mix . In my home , he seems to understand , listen and respect my boundaries. He sits stands and comes on command. He has learned not to bark excessively at noises . I rarely carry him though he's only 7 lb., and treat him like he's a big German Shepard .

The problem is he isn't very socialized being that we live alone in the country and don't have company very often. We take him out with us once a week on my husbands day off to expose him to different people and situations. We like to let him walk on a leash in the Petco store. We took him to a doggy socializing session at Petco . It was awful ! They decided to put up a barrier between us and a small, though much bigger than him , playful friendly puppy who wanted to play with him. Roscoe lunged and growled and was aggressive the whole time.It was obviously a negative experience for him. The dog trainer refused to let us pay for his time there because he was so unhappy. We finally took him out of the circle and walked him through the store on his leash which we also do once a week.

When we walk him through the store he is usually cautious but ok when people walk by or want to stop to talk to him or me , unless a child or person quickly reaches out to pat him at which I ask them to make a fist and let him sniff first. When they do that , he ends up calm and licks their hand. But this day he was growling or nipping at anyone who approached us . It was just a terrible experience for all of us.

He is about to have his last Bordatella shot so we can bring him to a doggy daycare one day a week. I'm concerned they won't want him there with this behavior . I need help !

Aggressive Chihuahua

by Ali

I recently adopted a Chihuahua puppy, he is 11 weeks old right now.He quickly became a part of the family and is very attached to myself, my mother, sister, boyfriend, and my boyfriend's parents. However, he is extremely aggressive and "uncomfortable" around my brother and the my sister's boyfriend as well as basically everyone else he has met since we brought him home.

I have had plenty of dogs and I am very knowledgable with their body language way of communication, so I know that there is nothing that my brother, or anyone else the puppy is aggressive towards has done wrong;(Dominating stances, rough voices, direct eye contact). It's like he refuses to be socialized. I bring him out every where I go, I only introduce him to situations with nice people and friendly animals, he has had no reason to act the way that he does. I have no idea what to do about him because I have never encountered such a young dog having such personality difficulties.

Can anyone help out here with some advice?

"Five Month Chihuaua Mixed Breed Rat Terrier

by Tanya
(Ashtabula, OH)

Three days ago we bought a mixed breed chihuaua/rat terrier mix puppy off of a family through Face Book. In the three days since we've had Dallas he nips at my pants, growling, grabs whatever he wants and growls. Sometimes he gets very close to my face getting that eye look and growls as if he is going to bite me.

Today he chewed my laptop keyboard wire in half (while we weren't looking) but often he is calm enough to let me pet him or allows my husband to do it too.

My husband is in a wheelchair and I walk with a cane. If Dallas needs puppy behavior school we might not be physically able to handle a program like that. We are thinking of giving him up
for adoption but don't know if he should be around people acting like this. What can we do?

Angry Chihuahua

by Fred
(West Texas)

Three months ago we adopted a 1 year old male chihuahua from a shelter and he was very loving if timid and quiet. We were informed by the pound that he may have been savaged by a larger dog prior to being picked up and apparently he'd suffered puncture marks. My wife and I also think he may have had some broken ribs as well but am not sure. He seems to be rather bony but we have been making sure to feed him. I would assume his age at this point might be close to one and a half.

He gets along very well with our other dog, a female chihuahua who just recently turned one herself last month and our sister's dog, a little 10-month old mixed breed. They interact nearly every day and enjoy each others' company. All three dogs are spayed and neutered.

In the last couple of weeks however our little male chihuahua has become a little more aggressive in play, just a bit more bitey. He has not bit myself or my wife until earlier this afternoon.

But most distressing of all he has started snarling, snapping, and barking at my sister and her 6-year-old girl. I suspected my niece, I confess because kids can be rough sometimes but my sister would never have hurt him. He's also not getting along with the other male either, whereas they used to be best buddies. My sister even said they had a game where they'd pee on each other, (I never saw any evidence of this and this seems to be about when things started happening) and she'd have to give her puppy a bath. Now he seems to snarl and bark at the poor kid like he wants to maim.

We just don't know what has gotten into our tender timid little prince.

Agressive Chihuahua

by Kenzie
(Warrenton, Va, USA)

So I have a 11 month old chihuahua, that we've had since she was 7 weeks old. We tried to socialize her as much as we possibly could when she was a puppy and she was great. She was friendly and good with kids and people, and then around 6 months old was her problem. We got her spayed and then everything was scary and hurtful. Strangers were dangerous because we'd dropped her off with a vet who cut her open and she woke up sore. So we tried to continually socialize her slowly to get her reintroduced to people and that strangers weren't scary as long as we were in control. But now it's to the point where she growls at people and tries to nip at them, and I say 'nip' because she has never broken skin and she does this when she's play bowing as she's running away from said stranger.

We don't hold her when we introduce her to new people so she doesn't think she has to protect us and she gets along great with other dogs, but now whenever we go to pick her up to either set her down on the ground from the couch, or whenever we wake her up from a nap she gets extremely defensive against us, growling when we touch her and biting and getting rigid with us when we lift her up. She used to be find with being handled (and we do it gently) but now she gets so aggressive I'm worried.

Aggresive chihuahua greyhound mix puppy

by Betty C.
(Las Vegas, Nevada USA)

I bought a puppy chihuahua greyhound mix. Internet said they are easy to train. The potty training was very easy but after two weeks of having him, he has gotten where he bites me and jumps up up my legs as I walking causing a lot of deep scratches on my arms and legs.

He growls and lunges at me and barking and just mean. He was so loving at first except the excessive chewing. Bought the bitter apple spray. Didn't work. Bought him Sentry calming collar and calming chews and no improvement.

I was told he was 3 months but acts like he was given away young to a couple with two children. Of course, they didn't tell me that they sold him to me probably because he was chewing and scratching everything. I have spent $300.00 on this dog and tried everything on every site I can find. None of the advise works. I have had a lot of dogs but this one has beaten me down.

I got him because my Siamese of 8 yrs had a sudden heart attack. He was the most lovable cat I ever had from 3 mos and a lot easier to train. For a cat he was very intelligent and responded to all my commands even chased and fetched and brought the toy back like a dog.

Please help me. I'm a 69 yr old woman and this puppy is only lovable when he first gets up from a nap whic he does several times a day because he wears himself out racing through the house like he's on fire.

Aggressive chihuahua greyhound puppy

by Betty C.
(Las Vegas, Nv. USA)

My puppy was sweet when I bought him 3 weeks ago but was nipping when I walk and scratching my legs but it has gotten worse. I have tried everything suggested on different sites and nothing works. He is doing bodily harm to me. He was sweet this morning with puppy kisses and then out of nowhere he jumped up on me while drinking my tea and bit me on the wrist breaking the skin. My arms and legs are bruised and scratched up with several bleeding. I'm a 69 year old retired woman and wanted a dog for comfort. My Siamese cat I had for 8 yrs died in front of me from a sudden heart attack and died before he hit the ground and I have been lonely since. He was so lovable and loved to rock with me in Amy rocking chair every night.

I'm lost on what to do. The vet says its natural for puppies to bite. But this is ridiculous . I can't afford a trainer and I have had several dogs and cats from a young age and never experienced this kind of abuse from an animal. Researched chihuahua greyhound mix and stated on all sites it's a good combination. Very active and lovable pets. Did I get the puppy from hell?
When he gets tired that's the only time I can hold him without him biting me.

HELP!!!!!!!!!

What do you suggest. Tried to let him know who's the boss. Yeh right. He walk like he's Gods gift. I know thus is a small dog syndrome because my late husband was sort but macho and never backed down to anyone . Lol

Please give me some advise. I don't want to give him up but my body can't take muc more and I know if he got adopted again they would bring him back and I have a lot of love to give him.
Tried different ways to give him time out but nothing works and he just gets worse.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Desperate senior. He is 3 months old. Have had him almost 3 weeks.

Tiny re-homed chihuahua showing signs of aggression

I recently rehomed a twelve week old very small chihuahua puppy . My other dogs, another chihuahua puppy and a Cavalier, are very gentle with her and try to include her in their play and she is showing signs of coming around to playing with them!

This new puppy has come from a home with aggressive dogs who didn't like her ( which is why her owner didn't want her) and small children who pulled her about and the result is a totally unsocialised snappy fearful puppy.

I suspect she hasn't been fed properly either because she gobbles up her food Extremely fast and then tries to bully the other dogs into letting her eat their food ( and they usually let her) so for the moment I am feeding her separately in a different room.

She takes over the other dogs beds and steals their toys and growls at them when they try to take them back.
I try to make sure all the dogs feel secure by making a big fuss of all of them and saying loudly No to this little puppy when she is out of order.

The other day she went to snap at me when I went to get her from her bed......

Obviously even with such a small dog rehabilitation will take time but if anyone has any advise I would like to hear it ...please.

The new puppy has obviously been given the wrong messages and has a hard time surviving ( she had bite marks on her) but seems to have been cuddled and dressed up a lot. I am guessing she doesn't know she's a dog...smile...

Aggressive 9 wk old chihuahua puppy

When I first got my male chihuahua puppy he was great, loving, cuddly and playful. He's now turned into an aggressive terror that won't let you near him if he's eating or playing with a toy. He literally bites right at your or face and if you scold him he bares his teeth and again goes right for your face.

He plays well with other dogs, my boyfriend has a Great Dane and a terrier x and he loves them but when it comes to food/toys he will literally try to kill you if you take it away from him.

He's extremely confident and will walk up to and dog and steal their toy with no hesitation. He jumps and chases dogs/cats whatever and shows no backing down.

I'm really nervous that he is going to bite someone and I don't trust him.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!
