daughter dog aggressively barking at mother dog

my dog is 17 years old, we kept a female pup from her litter about 8 years ago. for the last 3 weeks, she has been aggressively barking at her mom. At first we thought she was getting possessive with the food. But she is doing it at odd times. Mommy dog walking into room, she will bark, laying down beside her, she will bark/growl, laying in the backyard sleeping, she will do it. It's the kind of mean, dog comes into yard attack barking. Any & all help would be great.

Correct The Instigator
by: Adam G. Katz

You will need to learn how to correct the instigator-- and how to make your corrections meaningful.

In a nutshell, it comes down to respect. If your dogs respect you-- you can tell them, "No!" and your correction will have meaning. If they don't respect you, then it doesn't matter what you say or do. You gain their respect through obedience training, learning how to administer a motivational correction and by adopting a "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach in your household.

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
