Bursts of Aggression From My Rescue Cross Jack Russell Terrier

by Ashleigh
(Sunderland, UK)

I re-homed Mylo just over 1 week ago. He has been responding to basic training great. But on a number of occasions he has had aggressive outbursts, where he is snarling showing all of his teeth and barking at me or my partner. This only happens when we are eating hot food with cutlery or if we take something off him i.e. training shoes.

I feel that he could end up biting one of us as his outbursts are getting worse no matter what we do and this has resulted in us putting him in his crate when he has these outbursts.

The only other time he seems to show aggression is when we're on walks and we walk by another dog male or female. He struggles like crazy on his lead and barks at the other dog.

I really need some help, Mylo is only 8 months old and he has already been made homeless by someone before, I want to stop this behaviour before I have to consider taking him back to the rescue or worse if he ends up bitng someone.

Thanks
Ashleigh

Correct him
by: Adam G. Katz

Hi, Ashleigh:

You need to:

1. Learn how to be the "alpha".

2. Learn how to correct this behavior, with the leash and collar.

3. Lear how to walk your dog on a loose leash (this frequently causes about 90% of aggression problems).
