Thanks for the tips Adam - all make perfect sense. At nearly 15 weeks puppy seems calmer - in part due to 4 nights in kennels where I believe he realised he isn't the leader of the pack! Also we have just started training him with a proper dog trainer who has shown where we have been going wrong. So now I am feeling far more confident that we will be able to get him trained properly :-) Now I just have to train up the 8 year old son to stop hyping up the dog - that is more tricky!

Nothing In Life Is Free

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
