I have a great dane who is just a year old. I saw very early signs of aggression with food and toys. I mean at just a few months old. She goes from 0-50 in seconds. She is affectionate to my husband and me but, fearful with strangers. She can be really good one minute and aggressive the next with our other pets and I've resorted to a soft muzzle for their protection. I contacted a dane rescue and they advised euthanasia and said she will only get bigger, worse and dangerous. I was hoping they would take her or at least give me hope she's rehab-able. I have an appointment with my vet this afternoon to discuss my options. She is a merlequin which I have read they possess an aggressive gene, I had no idea. Re-homing her is not a option due to not wanting to put others in harms way or compounding her aggression with confusion about why she was removed from her home. I love her to pieces but, I fear she's going to hurt/kill an animal or worse, a person. She has been socialized some but, my fear in taking her in public around animals or people make this very difficult. She lunged at a dog in the vets office when she was only about 4 months old so, it's not a territorial thing with her. What can I do other than put her down. Thank you so much
