Aggressive 1 year old Beagle

by Angela
(Taunton MA)

We have a 1 year old pure bread female Beagle that will attack and bite (to the point of breaking skin) any family member. It is a "possession thing" like when she gets a sock or other item to chew on and someone tries to take it away from her or if she is tired and we try to move her or put her in her crate. It has come to the point that we are considering finding her a new home. Can this behavior be corrected? We have an 11 year old female German Shepard and the two of them get along and play together great. We acquired both dogs from 8 weeks old and I have learned what worked to train a German Shepard works to train a beagle as far as " sit", "wait" and other simple commands but I never had an aggression problem with my older dog. This is a family that needs help either correcting this problem or finding the right home for this beautiful beagle.

Motivational Correction
by: Adam G. Katz

"You're going to want to give her a motivational correction-- but not one that's too motivational, otherwise there is a the possibility of her becoming defensive. I detail how to do this more explicitly in my "Secrets" book that you can download at "" right now for $1."

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
