7 Year Old English Bulldog Aggression

by Lauren D
(Port Carbon, PA)

Hi, I have two female 7 year old English Bulldogs, they came from the same litter but I got them 2 years apart. Nike, who I received first, was 1 years old. She was wonderful when we first had her but then when her sister came everything went down hill.
Claire came 2 years later and we had some trouble in the beginning with them getting along but after some time they became to like one another. They are both fixed but Claire was bred, and she did have 3 litters. ( We did not breed her).

For the past year or so, Nike has become more and more aggressive with Claire along with humans. Nike will fight with Claire or Claire will start with Nike and sometimes there is blood shed. This can be because of food, toys, attention, over nothing, or me. Nike is very attached to me so she does not like when Claire wants attention from me, she will get very angry and upset. If they are alone, they are fine. Its when myself or my boyfriend are home when this can occur. This is not on a daily basis but we want it to stop because they are in their senior years now and we do not have the heart to get rid of one of them. We also have an 11 year old daughter, which it would break her heart if we had to get rid of one as well.
Nike seems like she has a lot of anger but she gets the same attention as did before Claire came. The reason we got Claire was to give her a "buddy" for when we are not home.

Please, if you can help me with Nike I would greatly appreciate it. She is part of our family and we do not want her to go.

Thank you!!

Nothing In Life Is Free
by: Adam G. Katz

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
