9 wk old yorkie puppy growls and snaps at my kids

by Amanda
(Arizona)

We just got a new puppy about 2 weeks ago. Twice now he has growled and snapped my kids (8and9) in the face wile holding him. Other than that he is usually very affectionate and loves to cuddle. What could be causing this and how can I correct it?? Right now he has milk teeth and can't really hurt you but soon he will have his adult teeth and I'm scared he will actually hurt one of my kids. :-/

3 month old Yorkie female

by Kathy
(Florida)

I have a 3 month old female Yorkie. She is sweet when she is sleeping, but she seems to have a lot of energy. When I pick her up she squirms almost to the point of my dropping her, I have a collar for her and a leash and she hates me to put it on her. She always bites my hands and fingers in a hurtful way. How can i get her to stop doing this so that I can bathe her and have a normal puppy.

I also need to know something else. I have a 17 year old Shi Tzu who is deaf, and going blind and has arthritis. I have to keep him on the couch while my puppy is out, because she jumps in his face, grabs his tail, tries to get him when he is eating or drinking and generally annoys him. He has not snapped at her yet, but he is always having to run away from her. I have bought calming collars, Sentry calming spray, Sentry Stop That spray and nothing seems to calm her down or stop her from chasing him. Tell me is there anything I can do for this.

Thank you,
Kathy

Aggressive Yorkie

by Madi g
(Utrecht Nederlands )

Hello,

My name is Madi and I have a 3 month old Yorkie. He is pretty fast in learning he know sit, lay, crawl, jump, look, turn and does it for treats. I try to be assertive and dominant in a calm manner when he misbehaves. I give him warnings and if he still does not back down and starts growling and showing teeth and biting i try and make him submit.

First its just energy in which i calmly wait until he retreats. if he does not an bites again i try and gently put him in a submissive position and then let him go and he would stay for 10 seconds. He really hates this and goes ballistic. He bites like crazy and growls and squirms and i do not really use force. And its not like he is afraid to be on his back or its painful. We cuddle on our back and give belly kisses and he enjoys it touched.

I am afraid that i am reprimaning him to much or doing something wrong. When should this move be used or should i not use it at all. It seem to make him want to look less at me after i do that and he is a little scared and struggles me.

Am I doing something wrong?

He walks on a leash ok and even follows me nicely of leash. He is quite food driven and likes to work. He is a good and quite dog if he does not protest every time i reprimand him for something. Then he puppy barks and get mad and bites everything around him and huffs. I stay on him with no contact no touch no talk and stare him down. Only when he seem calmer and not bitting do i go, with no praise.

Is he being a puppy or not?

He gets really mad and bites until he draws blood and seems willing to bite some more.

Please help me not destroy my dog!!

aggressive yorkie

My yorkie is 18 months old about 11 pounds. He is very lovable most of the time. He is never aggressive to me but growls and bites at my daughters hands and feet. I pick him up while he is still barking or snarling and never bites me and he will then stop.
It comes out of nowhere. He is affectionate, licks her face every day, but when she moves sometimes he will just run to her feet and bark and bite at her making noises.
Help!!
