Aggressive Boxer Dog

by Jill Hirschi

I need some suggestions, I have 2 boxers dogs. The male is very red zone aggressive (think it is Fear and Territorial-Based aggression), for example if somebody knocks or rings the door, or the mailman comes, or he hears a noise outside he barks like crazy and then takes his frustration out on our female dogs, it looks like a dog fight but there is no blood just a lot of noise. If the door is open when someone is out there he goes out and tries to bite or nip them so he has bitten around 5 people or so and drawn blood on most of them, and one was a dog trainer.

If we are on a walk he tries to run over to them and attack them, if he sees a person on the walk and they get too close he growls and tries to bite or nip them. However we aren’t doing something right because he is still bad, he gets between 2-5 mile of walks a day and I play with them in the backyard for a hour when the weather is good but he is still very much aggressive and goes from 0-10 when anybody comes to our house. Any tips would be great, because we really want him to be a happy dog that can come to places with us and right now he is unhappy.

Thanks

Jill Hirschi

Aggressive Boxer Age 4

by Nicola

Hi,

I have a 4 year old boxer called Charlie, he has not been neutered. He is a lovely playful dog, who will listen to basic commands and is very good with other animals and people however he does jump up alot.

The problem started in 2010 when picking him up from the kennels after a family vacation. The owner had told us he had been very aggressive towards them and was protective of his food bowl. He had never done this before at home but we soon realised that he had changed. He has now become aggressive towards my husband. Partically as he goes to leave the house at night for work however has also attacked during the day. He will jump at him putting his mouth around my husband's hand causing bruising and teeth marks. Charlie's behaviour seems to change more at night and he becomes even more aggressive when he can sense I am nervous. He has not been aggressive to me or our 3 children but I know I am not helping the situation as I think he can sense my fear.

In 2009 my husband accidently shut Charlie's tail in the door and after many visits to the vets it was removed. Could this have caused the aggression towards my husband however he did not show any signs of change untill after his stay at the kennels.

Charlie is not agressive every day but it feels like he is a ticking time bomb. We don't want to give him away as 70% of the time he is wonderful to us all but it's the not knowing what he is going to do next which I can not live with.

Please help.

Aggressive 2.5 Year Old Boxer

by Ashley
(Houston, TX)

My dog is normally very affectionate and loves being included in the family activities. However, as soon as we walk out the front door he pulls and jerks on his leash and lunges at anyone walking by.

Tonight he got off his leash and scared the daylight out of my neighbor and her two small daughters. I was able to catch him but the lady had to throw her suitcases in front of her children to block the dog. We don't know what to do at this point.

There's a Petsmart training camp but I don't know if the dogs behavior can be fixed at this point. My email is XXXXX@gmail.com

Aggressive Mastiff-Boxer/Bulldog Mix

by Rachael
(Dallas, TX U.S.A)

My dog is super sweet EXCEPT for when it comes to me. When I sit down he will start to whine, then bark, then lunge at me. There are three people in my home and I am the only one this happens to. He does not bark or growle when it comes to his food or play toys, only when it comes to me. This behavior does not happen all the time but it has become more frequent as of late.

Sometimes when this agressive behavior begins he will try and hump me. I am not sure if he is trying to assert his dominance as pack leader, but i really need help. I dont want to give my dog to a shelter but I will have to if I dont find a solution.

P.S. he is in training 101 as we speak but this behavior is not covered.

Aggressive Deaf Boxer

by Jacob
(Virginia)

I have a white male boxer 2.5 years old who is aggressive and he's deaf. He has also been fixed. If we have company over he will play with them an he's completely nice while they are over but once they go to leave he's growling and biting at their ankles (yeah I know a boxer being an ankle biter kinda silly.)

He doesn't like smaller animals we just recently got another boxer puppy and he attacked her after about 15 mins. If I take him to someone else's house if they have a dog similiar to his size he plays with them like a normal dog would also if we take him to a park with a dog similar to his size he's fine. He's had obedience training and the trainer said he was better than most dogs that can hear he listens well to handle signals such as sit and lay he will say for a Lil while but not for to long. I'm not sure what to do to help fix his aggression problems tried a bit of everything and I'm not seeing any results...

Don't know how to fix the small animal aggression he's killed about 4 possums in my backyard. Any advice on how to handle this would be greatly appreciated.. He is a very loving dog and he means the world to me he just has some issues that need to b fixed then he'd b perfect..

Thanks!

Aggressive Rotty/Boxer/American Bulldog Mix

by Jeff

My pup champ is 3 years old. He is a huge sweetheart and he is loved by most that come over...but he is extremely aggressive to new faces and new people that come into the house. He charges the door at full speed, jumping on people as they come in the door. He recently had nipped a friend in the face after my friend let him out of his cage. He kneeled and got right in champs face, champ is unfamilier with this friend...and nipped him quickly. He has snapped at a few people and nipped one other friend in the hand. He's currently in quarantine.

I'm so scared he is going to do this again and i wont get so lucky. It is breaking my heart to think i have to put him down. please..i need help.

Aggressive Pit Bull/Boxer Mix

by Ryan H.
(Brandon, SD)

I have 2 Boxer Pitbull mixed dogs. We had the first one (male) for approx 2 years before buying the second (female) and they seemed to get along fine. They were both shelter dogs and the female had just had pups several weeks before being adopted so she seemed to have some depression issues already. The dogs have now been together for a little under a year. The female dog came from a home where she was the only dog in the house and is very dependant on us and has to be close to us all the time. Several weeks ago the female began to attack the male dog, who is not an aggressive dog in the least. The male dog has sustained several injuries due to multiple attacks from the female dog. The triggers for the female dog seem to come from the male dog getting attention from other people or getting too close to us so the female attacks as a dominence issue (guessing). My wife and I are now to the point that we don't trust the female if we have kids as she will attack the male dog in front of other peoples kids or while their kid are playing with the male dog. I don't want to just give up and send the female back to the Humane Society but its getting to the point that I dont want anyone else getting hurt as there is no warning from the female, no growling or other warnings, she just charges and wont stop until I pull them apart, which has caused several bites to my hands while trying to get her off the male. Both dogs now have had several lacerations and other injuries and im afraid we may have to return her after almost a year. I would like to avoid this, is there anything I can do that will change her behavior before myself or another dog gets injured worse than whats already happened. Thank You.

Aggressive Boxers

by Joe
(Fair Oaks)

We just returned from a few days of vacation and our dog sitter told us that our male boxer was showing agression towards our very submissive female who is a very gentle boxer. We were home for a few hours and everything seemed pretty normal when all of a sudden our male attacked our female. Well finally got them broke apart and my other female boxer started to fight with my gentle female. By the time I got them apart my poor female who just got her butt kicked twice within a few minutes was bleeding profusely from her ear. she had to have her ear surgically repaired and when i got her home I kept them separated. After a few hours I brought in the other female so that she could see her and for a few minutes she was cleaning her face and licking her as if too apoligize for her actions the day before, when all of a sudden she attacked her again.

I dont know what gives? Generally the three of them are best buddies and play with each other all the time without fighting. Lilly the fermale who attacked Sophie is the oldest at 5 years old. Sophie is about 6 months younger, and Piper our male dog is about 18 months old. All of them have been fixed. I am looking for answers and I do not want Sophie to get attacked again. She is such a sweet dog and i am ver concerned for her safety. Please help!

Aggressive white boxer (2 years old)

by Shelby
(Louisville,Ky)

I have a white boxer, Bella, who is now 2 years old. We adopted her from Feeder's Supply at a couple weeks old and she was a regular happy puppy. We had two other older boxers, Lucy was 7 and Charlie was 5. Bella started showing signs of aggression at just 9 months old.She got in a fight with our oldest boxer where when i tried to stop it, bit me on the leg. She would fight the other dogs over food, or just the territory. As she got older, my oldest dog passed away at 9 years old, which left our boy Charlie who was 7. Now, Bella is 2 and Charlie is 9. Bella has attacked Charlie multiple times over food and sometimes over nothing at all..as it seems. While our other boxers would fight without drawing blood, Bella is all blood. Charlie has had the cone of shame a couple times because of getting stitches in his ears and neck. Anytime Charlie growls, Bella jumps on him. Charlie has never hurt anyone or any animal..in fact, he just sniffs them and walks away. Bella can be a very sweet dog but is mostly very playful and plays rough and doesn't seem to know how to not fight. She had obedience training, which she didn't do too well in, and we are thinking of getting a muzzle since she has hurt charlie so many times. Bella has never hurt people but does jump on them alot or chases them if they are on a bike or walking. Are there any aggression training for boxers in louisville, ky? We really need to get Bella a lot of professional help before she really goes too far in a fight with Charlie. What are the best ways to stop a dog fight besides pulling on their collars to seperate? Thanks.

-Shelby J.(the photo is of all 3 of them. Bella is the white one.)

Aggressive boxer mix

by Bobbi S.
(Proctorville, Oh 45669)

Macie was a very goofy, lovable girl when I first took her in , she became a foster failure. She got along with my 3 neutered male dogs & did well with other fosters. I usually had male fosters, then I had a female, whose name was also Macy. The other Macy was very dominant but the 2 got along at first, then foster Macy jumped on my dog. There were several fights, a couple my Macie started because I think she was tired of being bullied. She even went missing for about 4 days & now I think it was because she was afraid. So the other Macy went to rescue & I had another female rescue. They got along except for 1 time when the foster got to close to her chew bone & she jumped on her. There were some rescue people here at the time & they decided my dog was vicious & I could not have fosters any more. I have since worked with another rescue but I have only had males & there have been no problems. I will say sometimes she snaps at others if she doesn't want them close to me or if I am eating. She will growl & snap but not attack. She has been jumping the fence & acts like she is going to attack dogs going by, a couple she has. I also have a small Chihuahua right now. She has jumped him twice, the first time I had to take him to the vet. She plays with him & loves on him then something happens. I can't risk her killing this dog or anyone else's. She is very stubborn & doesn't always listen. She has chewed a whole in my new privacy fence, she has broke out of crates. I don't want to get rid of her, she can be the sweetest dog in the world & I feel I have committed to this dog & love her dearly. But I can't let her hurt another dog. She is not aggressive with people, she barks but runs if anyone comes at her. I am at my wit's end, please help !

Aggressive 1year neutered boxer

by Eileen
(Olive Branch MS)

In the past I have had 2 male boxers at a time. They got their aggression out on each other when someone walked by the house etc. since my husband passed and I am on my own I only got 1 boxer. He is fine most of the time but he will just ‘switch’ on to being aggressive when I or my sister(petsitter) is in the backyard. I think it is because he is trying to be the alpha dog back there. At any rate he is bruising me and causing injuries and I would like to know how to curb this behavior. Normally he listens to commands very well but not when he is in this mode. I have tried a rolled magazine to no avail. I walk with a cane and sometimes have too put it between us. Any suggestions?

Rescued 2 1/2 yr old Boxer fear Aggression

by Brenda
(Chandler)

we rescued our Boxer a week ago and we are finding out the she is fear aggersive. She fears men. Cheyenne lived in a run outside for all of her life she would dig out and destroy things the husband would hit her and drag her back to the run.My husband will give her treats and pet her in the afternoon but in the morning she is fearful all over again this morning she tried to bite him when he started to pet her. We are both willing to work to overcome her fears but we need help. We have had boxers for years and never ran into this. What can we do to help her? I don't want to have to give her up.

Aggressive Pit/Boxer Mix

by Madeline
(Boone, NC)

9 months ago, I adopted my dog from the Humane Society as she had just had a litter of puppies. She growls when approached by any dog, her hair on her back stands up and I can keep walking and pull on her harness to distract away from the dog.

This afternoon, I was taking her outside to use the bathroom and there was a pit bull off the leash that ran to greet her. I held her leash tightly and tried to pull her away. She then made herself larger than the other dog, bit the dog's neck and began to attack the dog. The dog fought back and my dog made her way out of the collar (since her head is so much smaller than her body).

I was astonished as this has never happened to me and I felt really bad for the owner of the other dog and apologized greatly. The other dog had no marks and was not injured. My dog was scraped and bled on her arm.

I want to be able to train and control this before it is an issue. This is a side of my dog I have never seen and I do not want it to progress.

Thank you.

Agressive Male Boxer

by Cindy
(Houston TX)

Jake is 4 years old and weighs 85 pounds. We’ve had him since he was a puppy. He recently has become Agressive at times. He grawls when we get near his food bowl. He grawls if he gets like a bug from outside and I try getting it from him. He grawls if we try to take a toy that he has chewed up away from him. He has grawled at my husband for nudging him off the bed. It doesn’t happen all the time, but often enough to be concerned. We have small grandchildren and they’re safety is our main concern. We have an appointment to get him neutered next month. I am hoping that will help. I don’t want to give up our boy Jake. Any help or advice from this group would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Aggressive Female Boxer

by DC
(Kansas City, MO)

I rescued Mopsey when she was 9 months old. She is now 5 years old and we have 2 more dogs. One a rat terrier that we found back in 2011, and the other a 2 year old boxer/pit. My female has become extremely aggressive towards both dogs. She will stalk the female terrier and attack on a moments notice. She attacks the male boxer as well. She even ran through our open fence and attacked a dog on the sidewalk. I am about to give her to a boxer rescue if I cannot change her behavior.

Agressive Bull Boxer

I have a pit bull boxer mix that is 1 1/2 years old and for the first part of his life I was married to an abusive alcoholic. I have tried to be as nice as possible to him and raise him very lovingly, but he has a history of being aggressive to other dogs and we are not really sure what sets him off or how to stop it. There were two other dogs that we raised with him somewhat and he attacked both of them and since then I have moved in with a guy with two dogs. My pup would continually get aggressive and go after the older of the two dogs to the point we had to keep them separate. The older of the dogs has since been put to sleep because he was very sick and it was the better thing to do. He got a new puppy recently and my dog has been aggressive a couple of times and this last time the puppy had to go to the emergency vet because my dog crushed his skull and they are not sure how bad it is yet. I don't know what to do at this point my kids and I love our dog and don't want to lose him but can he be helped?

My husband and I just rescued a bull boxer. The people we got him from said he was 5 months old and that they had a lot of money invested in him. When we got him he was skin and bones and had been through some kind of abuse his tail has also been badly broken at some point. He's a sweet dog but wantsnto eat non stop and fights with my other dog over all food. He also has aggression issues towards people. He isn't that way towards us but when anybody else is around he growls at the . His hair stands up goes into attack stance growls and has lunged at one person so far. Can this be fixed with him still being young and if so how so I help him
