Just Recently Aggressive & Teritorial Poodle

by Rick
(Clio, Michigan)

Our little chocolate poodle Hershey is 9 years old. He has always been SUCH a good boy, but recently he has developed a very bad behavior. My mother likes to sit in her room and watch TV. Hershey has a little pillow he lays on in there, and sometimes likes to lay behind her chair. In the past couple of months, Hershey becomes really bothered when I (and only I) enter the room. He growls and shows his teeth. If I scold him, it makes him even more mad, and he will partially charge me. It only happens in that room and only if my mom is there. If I leave and call him from another room, he comes and happily snuggles with me literally a few seconds after wanting to kill me.

Do you guys have any suggestions?

Nothing In Life Is Free
by: Adam G. Katz

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
