All puppies bite
by: Anonymous

Hi, I want to let everyone know that puppies biting you is not aggression, it’s a puppy who left his parents, and siblings, who he is used to playing with.puppies do not need choke, or pinch collars, you can do a lot of damage to a puppies neck if used wrong, I have raised 5 Siberian huskies, and a german Shepherd males, and females. What they need is lots of chew toys, and taught that their chew toys are what they can chew on. Puppies don’t know that they are hurting you, if your puppy won’t leave you alone, you tell them no and walk into another room and close the door for a few minutes. If you have to work and leave your puppy alone all day he is going to have pint up energy that needs released. When you come home stay quiet, go straight to his crate to let him out to go outside to the bathroom, then walk him to get rid of the energy he’s built up, if he won’t walk because he keeps latching onto your pant leg, then take him in and give him his toys to play with until he calms down. Give little affection, and more toys, walking, and a firm No for biting, barking etc. if he won’t calm down back to his crate he goes with his chew toys, once he’s quiet, let him out again and take him for a walk, it’s hard work but consistently pays off. None of my dogs jump, bark, or tear things up, or bite. Another thing I do is walk out before my dogs, and in, I do make them sit at the door to take off leash, I don’t always make them sit for food, as I leave food out, because huskies are finicky eaters and eat when they want, they also know not to touch the puppies food, and vice versa. I do make them sit for treats instead.

Ask Yourself Two Questions
by: Adam G. Katz

Hi, Laura:

You'll need to start by asking yourself two questions:

1. Does the dog understand that the dog aggression is unwanted behavior?

and

2. If she understands that she shouldn't be aggressive, then she's choosing to ignore me. In which case, you have a respect issue.

Get a prong collar and a six foot leather leash and learn how to correct your dog in a safe and humane manner. I can guarantee that you'll see an almost immediate, dramatic improvement. Check out DogProblems.com to learn more. (You can click on the banner, at right).

And finally: Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.

All the best,
Adam
