Aggressive Yorkie Poo

Him now

Him now

When we first got my 2 year old yorkie poo (Lilo) he greeted everyone silently. We all thought he was mute because he wouldn't bark at all. On contact with my older brother whom met Lilo on the second day Lilo instantly hated him. He began barking/growling at my older brother. The first day I got back to school we left Lilo alone and he ended up sleeping on my older brother's bed and for awhile was okay with him. Now whenever he sees my older brother he begins growling/barking at him. He just about hates my older brother's fiance who has been nothing but nice to him, to try and stop the unnecessary growling she's given him treats but still he continues to bark/growl. The first few weeks of walking Lilo he'd ignore dogs and people but now he growls at them. He even randomly growls at my dad whose walked him several times. The only people in the household he hasn't growled at is me, my mom and my younger brother. We think his old owners used to hit him because while near him by mom has picked a sandal up to move it away and he ran to hide. If you raise your voice even just a little he gets scared and runs. My dad has already threatened to give him away and I refuse to give him back to his old owners who have already begged for him. His old owners were terrible for Lilo, he needed badly to be groomed, his nails to be cut and he was extremely skinny. He's happy here and follows me everywhere, he adores me and I adore him too. Please help!

Nothing In Life Is Free

Nothing In Life Is Free

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
