Aggressive Tiny toy poodle

I have a 10 year old male tiny toy poodle. He is aggressive when going to bed at night and if he sits with me and i go to pet him. He has bitten me quite a few times to the point where he has broken skin and drawn blood. I love him to pieces but the aggression is getting worse and I am at my wits end. We just moved to an apartment and he gets crated whenever I go out and at bed time otherwise he will mark his territory. He growls and willingly goes into the crate but continues to growl and tries to bite my fingers as i close the gate to the crate. He does not have this behavior when he is groomed or when I board him. I've spoken to the Vet and his only suggestion was to take him to a dog psychologist for over $100.00 an hour. I noticed this behavior started after he was neutered at about 2 years old. Any suggestions?

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
