aggressive Pit/Sharpei (sharpool terrier)Mix 6 mon old

(Zebulon, NC, USA)

I live in a small country town in NC, my pup has become too destructive to keep in the house, so at first i put him on the screened in porch and he started chewing on everything my screen doors, the walls anything that is wood, so i had him outside, he started going into my neighbors yard who has 2 dog chained up and creating havoc pulling clothes off the line. so I have him chained to a tree with enough cord to get around in a big enough circle, i bring him onto the porch at night into a crate on the porch. I do most of the feeding and caring for him, lately when I go out to feed, water or go near him he has started jumping up on me and nipping me on my arms, legs, my chest anywhere he can reach he got me good on both arms causing a black and blue mark and swelling no broken skin. As a smaller pup and up to about a couple of weeks ago i used to let him bite my hands, as i now realize was a bad move. Now he acts real calm, bows down until i get close to him and then he jumps up and starts nipping, he also does this with my husband sometimes, not as much as with me, it is all the time. I got him when he was 6 weeks old, he slept with me and my husband, spent most of the day following me around, until he got bigger and i can't control him because I have arthritis in my arms and hands so i have little strength in these areas when he is pulling, he is too strong even for my husband too, and i am afraid of being pulled down. I don't want to be afraid of the dog, but it is getting to that point.

Nothing In Life Is Free
by: Adam G. Katz

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
