Aggressive Lab/Collie

My dog will be outside with my other dog which is a pit bull (brownie) and if the dogs outside are there he starts barking and growling and snapping at Brownie if there are the dogs outside behind us. He doesn't hurt him but he is very aggressive.
When they are inside and my brownie starts growling he starts the same.thing growling and barking and snapping at Brownie.
He doesn't do it any other time. I feel like it's a dominant thing. But we are planning on having kids soon and I'm afraid if he will get aggressive towards us.

He is 2 yr 5 months. We got him from a family that abused and neglected him. Left him tied up outside with just food and water.
What can I do to help him? I don't want to get rid of him because he is a sweet loving dog. But the aggressiveness is now getting me a little nervous.

Your problem is that your dog didn't get a motivational correction for exhibiting the aggressive behavior.

You need to:

1. Establish yourself as the pack leader.

2. Put both dogs on a "Nothing In Life Is Free" program.

3. Do not leave these dogs together unsupervised.

4. Get both dogs fixed/neutered/spayed.

5. Keep a leash and collar on both dogs, when you're with them-- so that you can start correcting the aggression.

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
