Aggressive Lab Mix

by Jessica
(Missouri)

I have a six year lab mix male who is fixed and has had a rough life. Previous to me rescuing him from the shelter, he was attacked several times by different dogs and has attached another dog while with me.

I cannot take him to the vet, pet park, and hardly on a walk without seeing a dog, so not sure what to do at this point.

He recently developed aggression towards people approaching him while on a leash as well. Mostly males, but today, showed aggression towards some kids that were walking by.

I have been researchng e-collars, but have mixed reviews and he is certainly too big to control on a choke chain which I think is inhumane anyways.

Any advice is good advice. Please help!

Thank you,
Jessica - Missouri

Fear Aggression?
by: Heeler Owner

Hi, do you think it's fear aggression? Or another kind of aggression?

My dog had pretty intense fear aggression towards dogs and kids for a little while. I've had good luck lower the protein levels in his food. See this:

Foods That Cause Aggression In Dogs.

Also I've been working on desensitizing him to various situations. This involves a whole lot of treats while just watching things from a distance.
