Aggressive Akita

by carla

I have a one year old Male Akita. He has been raised with my three year old female Lab. He dominates her, and has had her by the throat over a crumb of food or a ball. In the last three weeks he has busted out my metal gate and attacked three different dogs, being walked by their owners. One attack he caused two punctures to the smaller dog! He waits and stalks these dogs if I take my eyes off him. He sometimes growls at me when I am scolding him. We have shown this beautiful dog tons of love and respect, I am at a loss. I do not want to give up on him, but he is a huge liability. What can I do? would a trainer be able to even work with this dog?

Please help!

Nothing In Life Is Free
by: Adam G. Katz

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
