Aggressive 8 week old Italian Greyhound Puppy

by Rachael
(New York)

We got an italian greyhound puppy yesterday and he is 8 weeks old. When we got him home he growled at us once in a while if we touched him wrong. At first we thought maybe it was just a stressful long day for him...it was a 5 hour drive home. But now it is the next morning and his growling has turned to a growl with a nit of a snarl and he flings his head back and tries to bite.

He is lovey dovey after and a little bit before. He slept well overnight only waking up and crying one time and he takes frequent naps when he wants to. On the way home he slept in 15 minute intervals all the way. Could this just be him transitioning? What should we do when he behaves like this?

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
