This is relatively recent - last three weeks. We have an 8-year old female Wheaten rescue, and a 2 year old male Wheaten, purchased from a breeder.
ABout three weeks ago, the younger dog, started a low gutteral growl, whiskers moving up and down, and then baring his teeth, and then proceeded to attack the older dog. It was like a death fight, and I was finally able to separate them. Both had been bloodied. Thought it was over, and then the next morning it was the same thing, but caught the younger one in mid-air, as he was about to descend on the older one.
It has gotten progressively worse, and it is very stressful for all in the household. Spearating them with gates has not proven to be effective, because they have started attacking each other over the top of the gates. They can walk together outside, and also be in the back seat of the car without any behavior issues. Each has their window, and seem to be fine. Prior to about three weeks ago, they got along fine. The younger one would want to play and tug at the older one's ears, but no aggression at all. They even slept in the bed together with us. We've taken them to the vet, and both are fine medically. We have contacted a trainer, and are waiting to set up an appoint based on his availability.
Any suggestions, ideas about causes, remediation?
Thank you.
Barbara Lynch
