9 year old cardigan corgi is getting agressive

by Donna J.
(South River NJ)

My 9 yr. old male neutered Cardigan corgi who I have had since 10 wks. is aggressive to me but no one else. I live alone with him. He has nipped me before at 3 yrs. and we re-did training but he is getting bad again and bit me after bathing him . I don't want to put him down but I also can't live with a dog I can't trust. I never take chances with him at the Vet, always muzzle him so he can't hurt anyone else for his visits. My vet has him for a few days and is trying him on medication to calm his aggression. Is this a Corgi thing and is there anything I am doing wrong that I can change to help the problem. He is normally a really great dog to me and everyone else. Also he seems to respond to my Male neighbor better than me, is it a male female thing?

Nothing In Life Is Free
by: Adam G. Katz

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
