4 Month Old Aggressive (w/all strangers) Blue heeler

by Amanda

I have a female blue heeler who is actually 4 months old today. She is the sweetest most loving dog with me and our close family and friends. The people she's been around since we got her. But she is definitely 100% attached to me and if I'm around she won't listen to anyone else or go to them at all. Which my boyfriend has a hard time with. He works out of town during the week and when he comes home she just sits at my feet and stares at him.

Biggest problem is the strangers. She dislikes all strangers and new people. She growls and nips, almost like a warning bite though. Like she's letting them know she will bite, but she doesn't actually lunge (so far). And people who she's even somewhat used to, she's bit/tried to bite if they showed any kind of aggressive behavior towards me. I mean like even walking at me super fast and aggressive while I'm sitting down.

It makes me sad because all she ever is with me is a lover. She sleeps with me and spends every minute that I'm not at work with me. Very snuggly and sweet. I don't know how to get her to realize people are okay? I don't want her to bite someone and hurt them or end up getting hurt herself:(. Any advice would be awesome.

Ps, we're 8 months pregnant. Kinda worried about how everything will go with baby. If there's advice on that as well.

Nothing In Life Is Free
by: Adam G. Katz

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
