2year old dachshund bites visitors hands

by Sandy
(Battle Creek, Mi)

My two-year-old dachshund who spend most of this first 6 months in a crate, let out mostly just to potty, and then was given to a family of 4 living in in a single-wide mobile home with 3 other days and a cat, bites hands of visitors. I always hold him until he settles down, which seems to help some, but sometimes just out of the blue he will grab someone's hand and nip quit hard. How do I stop this behavior?

Nothing In Life Is Free
by: Adam G. Katz

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
