16 week pomeranian puppy attacks

by Jessica
(Indiana)

We just bought our blue merle pomeranian. He was scared of us at first but now he loves us and is very attached. But every one else in the family, he runs and attacks them, barks and growls, and even tries to bite. It has been like that since the first day we brought him home. We found out he has a fatal condition, his lungs are releasing air into his chest and we think he was abused because something like that only happens with very bad trauma, like a hard hit or a far drop. Plus the way he acts towards everyone, it just seems like he was badly abused. We are helping him heal the best we can and hopefully he ends up okay. But we can not keep him if he keeps doing this. And i dont understand how a little puppy can be so aggressive. He has never tried to bite me or my boyfriend. And even people he sees every day, he still snaps and growls. We need to teach him to be more friendly and im not sure how to stop him from doing this. We love him, we really want to keep him, and we could really use some help.

Nothing In Life Is Free
by: Adam G. Katz

Employ the "Nothing In Life Is Free" approach, so that your dog starts to view you as the "pack leader." If your dog doesn't see you as the leader, then your corrections will be meaningless. So, if you're doing subtle things (inadvertently) to undermine your leadership role around the house-- it will be counter-productive.
